Beach Scenes by Fran Villalba

Beach Scenes is a purely Humanist work that shows, in the form of micro stories, the human being in one of its purest facets. In the bathing areas we get rid of most of our clothes, but also of the intangible garments that we wear on a daily basis. The images quickly take us to a context of freedom that in recent times has been under constant threat; the images emerge just as free as their characters.

The project is materialized in black and white as a nod to the 20th century humanist photography, and as a resource to focus the viewer's attention on the actors in each scene.

This series has been created in different bathing areas of the Canary Islands in the summers of 2019 and 2020.

El Vestido Blanco by Michelle Fuertes

The sequence El Vestido Blanco (The White Dress) is purely autobiographical, where each photograph represents feelings, sensations and consequences resulting from an abusive relationship of (almost) seven years. Present in each image, a white dress, as a symbolic representation of gender violence.

The title of each piece offers the negation of the noun it accompanies; this resource isolates gender violence from the person who suffers it: abuse is something that happens to you, but it does not define who you are.

The series took place in Tenerife, intermittently from April to September 2022.
